Reading clipboard by software

Hi!
Is there any chance to read the "clipboard" (the text I've selected by mouse) is software? Idea: I've selected some text and after hitting a button on my mm keyboard (handled via lineak) I'd like to run some action {ie. log the selected text
Thanx for anyone's help.
