Raise Resolution in FC4

I am having a problem with my new installation of FC4, in that I should be able to raise the resolution past 800x600, yet I can't in the control panel. What do I need to do to get my screen into a usable size so that a window like the one I'm typing this in doesn't take the whole screen?

As root user ( su - ) , run the command: system-config-display

Under the Hardware tab / Monitor Type:
Check that the proper monitor is selected. If you have to use Generic, select a resolution which you want.

Under the Settings tab / Resolution:
Select the higher resolution.
