Programs are going ugly

Im using Kubuntu Jaunty
A while ago my Vmware started looking disgusting buttons got huge.
Yesterday Firefox did the same thing
Instead of the nice white default kde theme it was yellow/grey gnome like. It's hard to describe but the programs are suddenly looking very different. Other programs are fine.

I was just wondering if anybody had an explanation as to what is happening here.

Configuration settings usually do not change on their own. What applications do you use and what are you or others actually doing/working/playing on that computer?

I just remembered I installed compiz which was stuffing most of the applications applying pretty effects but making everything looking ugly. I removed that and now only Vmware is ugly, I will just reinstall it some time and if it goes ugly again I will try to work out what the problem was.

Thanks for reading

I've had something similar happen on Ubuntu before now just when changing resolutions, for some reason the Gnome theme changed to the ugly default. No idea why that happened.
