Problems with Totem and AVIs
Hello, I'm new but I'm having a huge issue with Totem right now, which is, believe it or not, my preferred video player.
I finally got my mp3s to work, installed all the proper codecs, but when I open up my .avi movie I get the a complaint saying I need "XVID MPEG-4 decoder".
Now, I'm not stupid...I've been searching all over the net, I have all the binary codecs necessary, I've gone to livna, uninstalled and reinstalled Totem and all of its dependencies more than once. Is there a codec I'm missing at all? It all worked fine in Fedora 8.
I'm very confused...any help would be very very useful.
Thanks,
Athena

I haven't used fedora for a while but, there should be an xvid codec in the repository. I guess you might have more than one in there (e.g. mpeg3 and mpeg4 versions).

Thanks, I'll check out that option too. I'm not sure if I picked up anything too specific yet.

FWIW, i always had issues with Totem. I ended up ripping it out and installing MPLAYER. Works a treat.

I prefer Totem for it's easier screenshot setup, but I use VLC and Mplayer for some of the trickier subtitled work.
Thanks all for the help, but found this: http://dnmouse.org/dvd.html and it worked perfectly...I'm in business until I find out what else my machine is missing. Hope this helps someone else too!
