Problems with giFT and ltdl

Hi all,

Just installed giFT and apollon, but can't get either to work.

Note: When I installed apollon, rpmdrake said the signature was bad, but as far as I've read, thats no big issue, since its from the plf resource.

I first tried running apollon, but I get the message:
Connection error
The giFT daemon, which is responsible for connecting to the various networks, appears to be down and I don't seem to able to start it.
Probably your giFT installation is corrupted. Try starting giFT manually by typing "giftd" on the command line. If this gives errors, there's likely some internal error in giFT or in your giFT configuration. Refer to the giFT homepage at http://giftproject.org for help.

So, I then tried running giFTd from the Konsole, as it suggests, and get (wth -v):
[18:32:06] giftd 0.11.6 (Apr 4 2004 01:42:20) started

[18:32:06] *** Often times more information can be found in the log file or with the -v command line switch.

On https://lists.berlios.de/pipermail/g...y/000138.html, it suggests that this problem is due to not having ltds installed; however, it is installed on my computer (at least so package manager tells me).

Any ideas what could be wrong?

I've installed apollon and its shared library, the fast-track and openFT plugins, giFT, giFT shared library's; and I'm running Mandrake 10.0 with KDE.

The giFT homepage also appears to be of no help.

Thanks for any help.

Alex

Just worked it out, FastTrack hadn't installed properly via RPMDrake, not entirely sure why.

I'm having the same problem but I do't understand how you solved it. Please give the benefit of your experience ---- in more detail. Thanks.

Go to $HOME/.giFT/ and make a folder called FastTrack

The reason it doesn't work it that it tries to copy some default config files to there to let it run, but without the folder being present it can't do that.

If that doesn't seem to work, make sure you've run Gift -configure in the command line, and also run Giftd to see if it outputs any errors.

oh, and check you've got the case right in the config file, its "FastTrack"

Hope that helps..

thanks a million gregorya ---- that had me foxed! I've never had this problem with SuSE or Debian ----- so I was confused. I also had to uninstall gift and reinstall to get this working on Mandrake 10 Official.
Cheers

Same problem

I got the same problem from Apollon. Here's the message I got on the console when I started Apollon from there:

[14:44:29] giftd 0.11.8.1 (Dec 13 2004 13:08:25) started
[14:44:29] Plugin OpenFT (0.2.1.6) successfully loaded and initialized
[14:44:29] OpenFT: ft_openft.c:257(openft_start): Booya! OpenFT in the house!
[14:44:29] *** GIFT-WARNING: OpenFT: guessing max_active=600
[14:44:29] OpenFT: ft_node_cache.c:129(read_cache): opening nodes cache from /home/hank/.giFT/OpenFT/nodes...
[14:44:29] OpenFT: ft_node_cache.c:152(read_cache): successfully read 53 nodes
giftd: relocation error: /usr/lib/giFT/libOpenFT.so: symbol __fprintf_chk, version GLIBC_2.3.4 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

It's different from what gregorya got, so maybe there's a different problem or just a different version.

Sorry. It was when I ran giftd -v. (The Edit feature on the forum was being temperamental with me.)
