Problems with gedit on Ubuntu 11.10

Hello,
I'm using Ubuntu 11.10, and I'm encountering the following problems with gedit:

1) won't open if terminal window is not opened;
2) gedit <file name> in terminal window doesn't work; file must be
opened in gedit window

In case 2) above I get the following error messages:

** (gedit:2301): CRITICAL **: _gedit_app_get_window_in_viewport: assertion `GEDIT_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed
** (gedit:2288): WARNING **: Failed to call gedit service: Timeout was reached

Hi guys,

I have the same problem like @bostjanv. When I try to edit any file with gedit the program says:

** (gedit:2551): WARNING **: Failed to call gedit service: Timeout was reached
----------
I'm using Xubuntu 11.10, gedit was installed with 'sudo apt-get install gedit' - nothing special...

I have the same problem:

$ gedit COD_main.f

** (gedit:2168): WARNING **: Failed to call gedit service: Foi atingido o tempo limite de espera

** (gedit:2171): WARNING **: Failed to call gedit service: Foi atingido o tempo limite de espera
