Problems installing Software and Libraries

Hey I' m a newbie to linux and i've been really playing around lately installing programs but am constantly running into problems...........I'm currently using mandrake 10.1 and trying to install a program called Grip when I try to configure I get this error

checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking for libgnomeui-2.0 >= 2.2.0... Package libgnomeui-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libgnomeui-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'libgnomeui-2.0' found

now I tried to installl this package using the rpm file but after I do this and try and configure still nothing ...........once I install with rpm it says

Some package requested cannot be installed:
libgnomeui2_0-devel-2.6.1.1-2mdk.i586 (due to missing libxml2-devel-2.6.13-1.1.101mdk.i586)
libxml2-devel-2.6.13-1.1.101mdk.i586 (due to unsatisfied zlib-devel)
do you agree ?

If anyone could help that would be appreciated

You need to install the packages with urpmi/rpmdrake so that you prevent these dependency problems. to find out more about using urpmi, go to zebulon.org.uk.
