Problem with nvidia and resolution when non-root

Hi,

I have a working FC14 x86_64 install with the rpmfusion nvidia drivers and successfully have it working as root at 1920x1080 using just startx. However, when I run startx as a normal user, the display is only 1280x1024. What could be the reason for this?

The /var/log/Xorg.0.log reports that it's using the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, and there is no mention of 1280x1024 in the xorg.conf. In fact, it's listed as 1920x1080.

I searched quite a bit for this without success, but not really sure
how to troubleshoot this. Here is some relevant information:

From Xorg.0.log when started as normal user:

Code:
[  2554.121] (==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"
[ 2554.136] (II) NVIDIA dlloader X Driver 260.19.21 Thu Nov 4

[ 2554.148] (**) NVIDIA(0): Option "TwinViewXineramaInfoOrder" "CRT-0"

[ 2554.480] (II) NVIDIA(0): Validated modes:
[ 2554.480] (II) NVIDIA(0): "1920x1080+0+0"
[ 2554.480] (II) NVIDIA(0): Virtual screen size determined to be 1920 x 1080
[ 2554.489] (II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "1920x1080+0+0"
[ 2555.246] (II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "1280x960"
There is nothing relevant between the "setting 1920" line and the
"setting 1280" line.

Code:
# rpm -qva|grep nvid
nvidia-settings-1.0-8.fc14.x86_64
kmod-nvidia-260.19.21-1.fc14.1.x86_64

Ideas greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

In general when some function works as root and it fails for other user accounts then it is due to security. In this case it could be incorrect file permissions. I would check the file permissions on /etc/X11/xorg.conf to see that everyone can read it. If that is not the problem then it may be incorrect permissions on another file required to make the driver work at full resolution.
