Problem with mplayer on Gnome

Hi all.
I think it is a bug in Gnome, so I have reported a bug.
You can look here for more details about the bug:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=314799
But the comment on gnome.org tell me that this is
a mplayer problem.
This is a linux software forum, so I think we can discuss this problem here.
Do you have any idea?

Have you tried using xine player or kaffeine? They both use the exact same codecs as mplayer so you won't have to install anything. Try one of these out and see if they are a little more stable than mplayer. And also, does this error only occur when you play .wmv files specifically, or when you play any file?

I cannot install xine or kaffeine.
The refuse to build with gcc 4.0
The rpm package said that my computer doesn't have enough library for it.
So mplayer is my only choice.

This error occur only when I am playing .wmv and .wma file. other file is OK.
Please help me to deal with this problem.
It is a critical problem because when Gnome stop respond, I have no way except cut off the power for the PC, you know how danger it is.

Well, I have no problems in my system .
My distribution is Fedora core 4 and my mplayer version is
the newest.
My advice is to install the newest version of mplayer (1.7 or higher ,I can't remember clearly!).
