problem with gtkpod

Hello, i have a 20 gig ipod and I use gtkpod to upload my songs to the ipod.

Now i can come as far as getting the songs up, but it gives me a lot of problems.. When i insert it, suseplugger detects it, mounts it and lets me use gtkpod but this only works like 25% of the time. THe rest of the time it jsut doesn't read or mount. Also when im uploading songs, there's like a 40% chance that it just freezes and im forced to press the reset button on my computer..
can anyone help me solve these problems?
