A very basic overview of installing software can be viewed here: http://howtos.linux.com/howtos/Softw...ng-HOWTO.shtml

Welcome to the boards and the Linux world, be patient and keep at it.

This is one of the harder parts of linux, they do not make a really easy way just to grab all the dependencies. I personally have a high speed internet connection and would LOVE it if they did put all of the dependencies in a big package. The only problem here is that they do not know what you have installed on your system with Linux being such a customizable enviroment its nearly impossible to tell.

You could try to use the Yum program from the command line. Just type in "yum" and it will give you all the different options available to you. I personally think that you should really compile Mplayer yourself if you plan on playing any high bitrate movies that require good optimization to run properly/smoothly on your computer.

Depending on your version of Linux, it might already have the mplayer rpm and the required dependencies. For example on PCLinuxOS, I go into Synaptic and do a search on mplayer. It comes up with the rpm and when I go to add for install it tells me that it requires additional files to be installed. It then selects everything and installs without any missing files.

Good luck.
