Problem installing 2 rmps

I'm using Fedora Core 2. Installing an mp3 plug in for XMMS in Red Hat 9.0 was easy. I found the right plug in for Fedora Core 2 and have been trying to install it and i get an error :

error : cannot create transaction lock

What does this mean????

I also tried installing LAM/MPI and i got the same error. It's strange!!!

Yes, always install from root (whether you're using rpm or make install). Use the "su" command to become root, then when you're done use "exit".
