Problem building pango + xft

Hi,

I'm in the middle of [what seems to me] a convoluted process to install gtk+ 2.6.0. Currently, I'm trying to build/install Pango 1.8.1 with the XFT backend.

I have built fontconfig. Initially I built fontconfig with freetype, but I have since built and installed XFT + all it's dependencies, and done a clean build of fontconfig.

When I run ./configure for Pango, I only see "FreeType" in the list of backends at the end of the script.

My LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set to /usr/local/lib: and my PKG_CONFIG_PATH is set to /opt/gnome/lib/pkgconfig:/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig (xft.pc appears in /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig)

Can somebody please tell me what I need to do to "register" xft with Pango's configure script?

Should mention that I'm running Suse 9.1

Thanks very much,

Russ

xft is the problem

Hi,

I have been hacking away at a source compile myself. I had the old version of XFT on my system.
Pango 1.8.1 will not compile correctly without a newer version of XFT.
If you have the easy package, install it.

If not need pure source, goto h t t p / / xlibs . freedesktop . o r g

libXft-2.1.7 is the latest release.

You must have Xrender for libXft to compile correctly.
You must also have the xrender.pc file.

On my system, I had Xrender, but the .pc file was corrupt, so I faked it:

Quote:
prefix=/usr/X11
exec_prefix=/bin
libdir=${prefix}/lib
includedir=${prefix}/include

Name: Xrender
Description: X Render Library
Version: 1.2
Requires:
Cflags: -I${includedir}
Libs: -L${libdir} -lXrender -lX11
and I put the .pc file in /usr/lib/pkgconfig
although some people put it in the /usr/X11/lib/pkgconfig

For me Xrender is installed in the /usr/X11R6/lib directory.
If yours is different, edit.

Good luck.
