Hi there,

I tried to install Mozilla Thunderbird at the weekend, and I get an error
about libpangoxft-1.0.so.0 not being there.

Pango seems to have other libs in /usr/lib (libpangoft2-1-0.so.0) for
example, so I reckoned that it was just missing xft.
After scouting the net, I had a look, and I reckon that I do have xft, I
have freetype2 installed (but I'm confused, because it sounds like that is
supposed to be part of X4.3.0 anyway- which is installed).

The only help I could find on the net about recompiling pango to include
xft was about making sure PKG_CONFIG_PATH was set - I've tried setting this to /usr/X11R6/lib/pkgconfig (where pangoxft.pc is) with no
luck.

The only thing I can really see in config.log which might be a clue is that
it seems to not find tterrors.h.

Anybody got any ideas, as I'm just going round in circles now!

When you were compiling pango, after you ran ./configure , did it end with? If it didn't find Xft then it won't build libpangoxft. You need to fix that before you run make. The easy way is to use RPM or whatever your distro uses. Good luck
