Hi, all!
running slack 9.1
I just got my printer set up with /usr/share/apsfilter/SETUP
printing the test page worked when I got to that step in the setup.
I proceded to start the lpr daemon with /etc/rc.d/rc.lprng start
I set the execute bit on the rc.lprng file first, of course. now, it should start automagically every boot...
(I didn't have a printer set up when I installed slack, and so unchecked both lpr, and cups during the install where it asks you which services to start at boot)
when I print a text file with (say) cat test | lp, it says: lp:error - scheduler not responding!
the info about my printer:
(it is a shared windows printer on another machine)
workgroup:HOME
name of computer it's connected to:X1B9Q7
share name of printer:HP
IP address of computer it's connected to:192.168.2.60
oh, and the printcap file the setup generated:
# /etc/printcap
#
# See "man printcap" for information on editing this file.
#
# In most cases it is better to use a tool to write the printcap
# for you (at least initially), such as apsfilter
# (/usr/share/apsfilter/SETUP, used in conjunction with the
# LPRng lpd daemon), or with the web interface provided by the
# cupsd print daemon at this URL:
http://localhost:631
# (if you use CUPS).
#
# APS1_BEGIN
rinter1
# - don't delete start label for apsfilter printer1
# - no other printer defines between BEGIN and END LABEL
lp|stp/pcl-4;r=600x600;q=photo;c=gray;p=letter;m=auto:\
:lp=/dev/null:\
:if=/etc/apsfilter/basedir/bin/apsfilter:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
:lf=/var/spool/lpd/lp/log:\
:af=/var/spool/lpd/lp/acct:\
:mx#0:\
:sh:
# APS1_END - don't delete this
remember, printing the test page during the setup worked...
just, no print after install(see above about "cat test | lp")
does anybody know why this would be?is everything set up correctly?
THANKS
