Hello, Ive tried the previous solutions here during my search but none worked for me
ANyway, Im trying to print from my linux machine using the printer thats locally installed on win XP. I can access files/folders shares between linux and xp (and vice versa), i am also able to see the window printer shares on linux/samba (we have a xerox printer locally installed on win 98 which is on the same network)
But my goal is to use the Minolta printer on xp via samba/cups since there are no linux drivers for this particular xerox model
Enabled Unix Printer Service on XP (is there anything else I need to configure on XP?) and tried all the ff uri:
smb://guest@WORKGROUP/HOSTXPNAME/printersharename
smb://xpname:xppass@WORKGROUP/HOSTXPNAME/printersharename
smb://WORKGROUP/HOSTXPNAME/printersharename
smb://HOSTXPNAME/printersharename
I get the same error:
"Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry in 60 seconds...ERROR: Connection failed with error NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED"
And yes, i have sambaname and password the same as my winxpname and winxppassword. Under printer manager, I also have ALL USERS ALLOWED to print.
Then i tried this uri someone posted here, but someone said that its the wrong ssyntax but i tried it anyway:
smb://WORKGROUP/guest@HOSTXPNAME/printersharename
When I tried that i didnt get any errors but the Printer Manager never showed up oon the taskbar when i tried to print something. But i did check localhost:631 and it shoews that my printjob/s were completed. but of course i go check the printer and nothing printed ><;;
So i go back and use this uri again
smb://guest@WORKGROUP/HOSTXPNAME/printersharename
and this time i get a more detailed error on cups
"Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry in 60 seconds...foomatic-gswrapper: gs '-dNOPAUSE' '-dPARANOIDSAFER' '-dBATCH' '-sDEVICE=pbmraw' '-dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=612' '-dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=792' '-r600' '-sOutputFile=| cat >&3' '/dev/fd/0' 3>&1 1>&2"
What does this mean?
Can someone help me? I just want to use the printer on XP via my linux box.. its been more than 3 days and i am on my wits end trying to solve this problem
