premission to cdrom drive for non root (K3B)

Hi!

I've got CDRW device under /dev/hdc which owner is root:

brw-rw---- 1 root root 22, 0 Aug 31 16:20 /dev/hdc

When i want to use it as a normal user via K3B it doesn't allow to access /dev/hdc. I've tried to change ownership of the /dev/hdc, but after rebooting the system, device ownership is reseted to root:root.

How can i make ownership of the /dev/hdc constant? Or how can i allow "normal" users to use CDRW device?

what i found with k3b was the first time i had to run it as root, after that i was able to run it as user. even if you can not run it as user, there is sudo or ssh -X to gain access to it no?

As root you can do 'chmod 666 /dev/hdc', but then you'll have the problem of it changing back after rebooting. Because of that I'll assume you're using a 2.6.x kernel with udev. Two ways you can fix that is

a) (not the best way) Add a line to your startup script to say
chmod 666 /dev/hdc or chown root:users /dev/hdc

b) (the better way) in /etc/udev/rules.d (I think) look in the rules file for where it defines permissions and ownership for the cd drive and adjust it the way you want.

A) Make yourself a member of the "CDROM" group.
B) Run K3b as root, and configure K3b. There may also be a K3b-setup program. It will offer to set the permissions for normal users.

Give user permissions in the sudoers file, either part of the wheel group, or whatever you want.
Then
sudo k3b

But how did it worked before? Without sudo?
I think it all started after i installed new version of k3b.
How can i change ownership of /dev/hdc (make it root:cdrom) to make it constant, and not reset after system reboot?
