Question Please help! DSL Speedstream Modem - Bell Sympatico Connection

Hi. i'm a total linux newbie and have just installed Mandrake 8.1. However, i'm still connecting to the Net through Windows. My DSL provider has a Linux Driver that can be downloaded, but i need to know how to properly download in a form that Linux can use, and then how to install it on Linux. The provider is Bell Sympatico High-Speed Edition, and tho they have the download, they don't offer any technical advice for Linux, especially a newbie. The modem I use is "Speedstream" by Efficient Networks, Inc. The Sympatico site is:

How does the modem connect to the computer?
