Photographer needing special software!

Hi all,

I'm a photographer and, as such, I need to be able to download my images from my CF cards to my Linux machine. I have been doing it in Windows but there must be a way for me to plug in my USB 2.0 CF Card reader to my Linux box and download the images. Is there special software I need to do this with Linux or what? I'm not sure how to go about doing it.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Good day!

Mike

Here is a link on setting up Flash Card readers on linux:
http://www.cs.sfu.ca/~ggbaker/personal/cf-linux

However, LM 10 probably will set things up automatically for you. Plug in the reader and see if a drive icon pops up on the desktop. Also check the directories in the /mnt tree to see if it is there.

Is a USB Flash Card the same thing as a memory stick?
My memory stick was plug-n-play for me in LM. It was different when I plugged it into the usb port of a windows 98 machine. I had to download the the driver and install/reboot twice.

gphoto2 installed...now getting errors when downloading

Hi again,

I have gphoto2 now working. It recognizes my camera, reads the directory of photos on the CF card, and will tell me all kinds of nice information but when I do a gphoto2 -P to download all images, I get constant errors. Well, I played around with it a bit and noticed that I was doing everything from root. I exited back to my user account and the downloads went fine. Go figure. Just wanted to share that in case anyone else was seeing similar problems.

Thanks.

Mike
