if its not booting to the cd, either your bios is not set to boot the cd as the first device or its probably a bad disk, not finding the boot info on the cd..
is it a iso image you burned yourself or a retail cd ??
let us know !

futurist,
your telling him to boot the cd to install, that's his problem, he can't boot from the cd. and there would be no reason for him to delete the ext2 partition if he plans to install linux there, that won't affect his problem he is currently having.
Hi, few questions here, is your BIOS sequence setup to boot from CD? if it is, what happens when BIOS goes to CD for boot-up? did you buy the software? or did you download it from a site and burn a CD? I'd like to get few more info on this issue before start making assumptions.
the bios is set to boot from the cd. it says searching for boot device from cd.... ok
so it sees the boot files but then the system just hangs there and doesnt boot.
I downloaded an iso image from ibiblio called small.iso which is supposed to be peanut version lite. The files that are on the cd are boot.something and root.something.

my pc from 1995 supports booting to cdrom.. i am sure that isn't the problem.
