Question Partition control

I currently run RedHat and WMe, and want to add BSD. My question: When I create another partition (I use Partition Magic), how do I know the new OS will go into the created partition instead of one of the occupied partitions? What makes it so? Thank you.

1. cuz u RTM'ed for at least 30 mins leafing tru the install docs.
2. cuz u prepare for the battle, and note the partitions down before installing (Linux stylee)
3. the BSD "install wizard" (at least on FreeBSD) will "guide" you tru the partition and slicing choices. easy.
4. cuz Baphomet, God Admin Of Exotic OS'es, stands guard?

With partition magic you can set a label to a partition. If this partition is an ext2 partition, you can query that label under Linux (maybe also under BSD) using e2label.
