Hi all,
For some time now, I've been keen to migrate from DropBox to an open-source cloud file sync setup. A few months ago, I installed OwnCloud on my server and the OwnCloud Linux client on my desktop box (Fedora) and laptop (Mint). I then synced a couple gigs worth of files.
It was not a successful experiment.
I encountered some bizarre problems:
- OwnCloud changing timestamps on files and folders
- OwnCloud repeatedly restoring deleted folders
- OwnCloud removing the executable flag from shell scripts
- OwnCloud creating huge a number of "conflicted" copies
In addition, the Linux sync clients crashed constantly.
I've gone reverted to DropBox for the time being, which works flawlessly.
I would be curious to hear from others in this forum about their experiences with OwnCloud file sync. I am hoping to return to using it someday.
As an aside: I am using OwnCloud's CardDav and CalDav interfaces and that works really well. The contact and calendar apps are very nice indeed.
