Oracle 10 G Database Backup & Restore

hi

I Have Installed FEDORA CORE 3 with Oracle 10g installed on it. As I am taking the full backup weekly of database oracle 10g by using exp command. The file which is generated become .dmp extension. Now I would like to know in the same ref that In case the PC was crashed and I want to restore the database from .dmp file by using imp command what steps I have to do ?

1. Whether I have to create the same user which I have been created to export the database ?
2. Whether I can directly resore the databse by using imp command after simply installing linux & oracle.

As I have tried 2nd step I got error that the restore process terminated .

Can any body help me in detail ?

AFAIK, the database name, oracle_sid and the characterset should be same. The RMAN tool is better than that. Also you can try the cold backup method of backup.
