Backup & Restore

I am doing a project for linux backup and restore on multiple cd's...i.e My project is the user will give the input(which directories he want to take backup and etc.)we have to take that input and we have to burn all of them into cd's (multiple cd's i.e if size if morethan 650MB u have to split them and burn into next cd)...again when u are restoring if u ask somedirectory to restore if it is the direcotry that was splitted u have to ask another cd and take the rest from it and again we have to combine them

any ideas....plz
