Opinions wanted on Windows/Mac to Linux Software Database
I have been kicking around the idea about starting an online "wiki" for a lack of better terms, that would be a database for linux software. For example, if a user wanted to know what was a good Microsoft Office alternative he could look up and see that OpenOffice was a good one, and be able to visit their site (others would be listed also, possible with ratings). I would like this to be editable to the public, so a registered user could add/modify/change/update any record. I have seen articles, but no websites that offer this. Do you guys think this is a good idea? If so, how many would be interested in helping get this thing up and running?
That wouldn't be bad but I'm afraid that such sites already exist. Maybe wait until you're an expert user of this or that application and then write up a good wiki; there are still plenty of apps that could do with some better documentation.
I have not found any sites that do what I am looking for. I am looking for a site dedicated to this sort of thing. I would like to possibly have around, say, 2,000+ entries. I have also taken into consideration setting it up so that each software alternative could have user ratings. I am an advanced web developer, so getting it set up would not be a problem.
