OpenSSH Server Depends

I'm trying to install openssh-server on Debian 3.1 using dpackage. Whenever I try, it tells me that it has an unmet dependency, namely libncurses5 5.4-5. I've checked all over and the newest version of libncurses5 i've been able to find is 5.4-4. So how do I get openssh to accept this and shut up?
Edit: Oh yes, I forgot. There IS a libncursesw5 version 5.4-8 (in the unstable tree). But when I installed it, nothing happened. It still gave me a dependency errors. Besides, I shouldn't be required to install unstable software to run stable software.
