OpenOffice WP changes my font without permission

I am running into an obnoxious little problem in the Openoffice writer, but I'm not sure it is indigenous to OO, as I vaguely remember having a similar problem in Microsoft Word. I was typing, with the cursor out in front, and OO changed my font from Times to Courier (or whatever it was before) by itself. I'm not sure if I did anything to cause the error, but I can tell you that the document started in the previous font; I changed the existing text to Times by selecting all and then selectimg Times from the toolbar. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Not sure what you're doing to make it change but you can stop it happening by setting the font in the default style for the document (Format -> Stylist, right click default and select modify)
