OpenOffice crashes as soon as I load it

I am brand new to Linux and I just installed Knoppix to my hard drive yesterday. It came with openoffice, but when I launch it, the open office logo on the cursor bounces for a few seconds but then quits.

I've already used Kpackage to upgrade everything but I still have the problem.

Thanks for your help.

Yeah, knoppix is a great live CD but it has a few issues when installed locally. Try changing window managers, like to WindowMaker or Fluxbox, then launch OpenOffice.

I must admit I'm unfamiliar with the problem and this is just a guess.

I tried both of those but I couldn't find openoffice in any of the application menus. Also, I like KDE much better.
