omgsh!!! just want to watch video lol

im sick of dicking around with different video players. im using fc2 on an adequate machine complete install, updates, yada yada, and ive tried to install several different players and most of them just look like they aren't made for the latest and greatest. my question i guess is this: what is everyone using CURRENTLY not 3 years ago to play avi/mpg? nothing seems to be compatible, thx.

mplayer. (some people use xine, though. It is not very bad either).

For dvds with menus I would recommend ogle.

Thumbs up

I have been using mplayer/gmplayer recently, before I was using xine and it was not the thing I expected but mplayer is really cool. I don't have any problem with it.

Unfortunately I had to download and compile the sources myself

If you are interested here are my configure options I have alsa and some libraries like id3 etc under glame custom install
Code:
export LDFLAGS=/opt/alsa/include
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/alsa/lib
./configure \
 --prefix=/opt/mplayer \
 --enable-gui\
 --language=en,de,dk,el,bg,es,fr,nl,ru \
 --enable-mmx2 \
 --enable-dynamic-plugins \
 --enable-opendivx \
 --with-madlibdir=/opt/glame \
 --with-extraincdir=/opt/alsa/include \
 --with-extralibdir=/opt/alsa/lib \
 --enable-alsa
My experience with the ready to install programs is that they are not the latest version and are buggy.

regards

I use MPlayer. It works with most media without a hitch and it can read through image files without any problems. On top of that, mplayerplug-in allows Mozilla browsers to play multimedia content off the web in the browser. As the name suggests, it is dependant on MPlayer.

Installation isn't hard either, just make sure you read the documentation and you look at all the configuration options ($ ./configure --help). You have to enable the gui (if you want gmplayer) as that's not default, but aside from that there aren't many surprises out there.
