No sound with flash or gstreamer on opensSUSE 11.1 and gnome

All of the sudden I lost all sound when using banshee and flash. The mplayer-plugin and firefox works however.

Lately I have been having problems like this periodically. Can anyone recommend a stable repository setup to me?

Code:

Dependencies of all installed packages are satisfied.
I have tried to have all the gstreamer package come from packman

Code:

hi...suggestions only

independently install alsa-utils unless you already have it and as local user run alsamixer.

provide a snapshot of all playback settings please.

7 day paste at
http://imagebin.org/index.php?page=add
or your fav site.

2) independent test....install mozilla firefox and download the tar adobe flashplayer and unpack it and put the libflash* into ffox plugins folder.

3) look at ALSA and various checks if you have time

Hi - and thanks for your suggestions.

I had alsa-utils installed according to zypper. After running the alsamixer I posted the snapshots on the website you suggested - just search for "plesset". Hopefully I got all the available settings. I do notice that there is no PCM. But maybe that is alright?

Firefox was already installed, and also flash-player which is the latest one from Abobe's website. Just in case I downloaded the tarball and placed the .so under /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins (which I had to create). After restarting ff, it made no change.

I'm going through the alsa check right now, but not finding anything in particular. Perhaps I can post the results here?

Thanks
- Andri

Ok, it seems that solution was a little bit less than dignifying. Although running alsamixer from the terminal showed no PCM bar I could access it from Yast2/Sound. For some reason it was set to zero. After I increased it I got the sound back. I guess it is borderline embarrassing.

But does that mean I'm not using alsa after all?
