Hello there. I'm currently running kernel 2.6.0-test11. I configured my setup so that the sound drivers are compiled as modules.
After installing the new kernel, alsa-libs and alsa-utils (both version 0.9.8) sound was working properly, although alsamixer and other alsa prgrams didn't work.
In order to resolve that, I ran the snddevices script in the alsa-drivers package to create the proper devices and sym. links. This solution was hinted at on the alsa mailing list. The good news is, alsamixer et. al. work properly now and all seems fine.... exept there is no sound comming out of my boxes! Programs like mp3blaster work ok, i.e. they give no error and execpt for the fact there is no sound, all seems fine. The channels arn't muted, I made sure of that. lsmod shows the sound modules loaded.
Can someone point me in the right direction?

Never mind people, got it solved. For some reason, it worked when I removed the sound modules and then called alsamixer. Alsamixer would then (re)load the modules and then I would have sound.
You see, before I made a little boot script that loaded the modules by simpily calling "/sbin/modprobe snd-card-0" . After setting up proper boot scripts, the problem went away.
