I wonder why I cannot play CD's on my box. I've got Aurox 11.0 based on FC3. Everything else works fine. MP3's Midi, TV music and so on.
I have ksCD installed and when I put CD into CD-ROM it starts automatically, slider moves forward, it reads the name of the song but as I said before no music. I wonder if I could install some other soft in order to repair it?. Some suggestions?. Have You met such problem before?. CD-ROM is connected to music card. I played CD music in Widoze on the same box. Thank You in advance for replies.
The first thing to check is your sound mixer. There's usually a separate volume control for input from the cdrom. Make sure it's not turned down. If that's OK, try configuring KsCD to use direct digital playback by going into Extras>Configure KsCD and ticking the box that says "Use direct digital playback".
I did as You said. Still is not working. There is an option 'Choose audio environment'(translated it from my language) just under 'Use direct digital playback' and there is a pop-up menu and it's empty. Is it wrong?. Under 'Choose audio environment' option there is 'Choose audio device' I set it to /dev/cdrom and after it wasn't working /dev/cdwriter. These I found in dev folder. I tried all this without any success. What else can I do?. Maybe there is some console app which would allow me to play CD's?.
Check to make sure that the small coax cable is connected correctly between your CD drive and your soundcard. It may be either missing or plugged into the wrong jack
Windows will automatically switch to digital audio extraction if the soundcard cable is not hooked up so it is possible that you don't have the cable hooked up to your sound card properly. Linux seems to have more problems with digital audio extraction from a cdrom than windows in my experience. It's worth checking.
Yes, that may be the case. I'll check. It's not such a big problem because I've got Hi-Fi system hooked up to the box. I can play CD's on it without computer at all but I just wondered why Linux has such problems.
to test whether it is the missing wire - from the back of the cd to the sound card - you try playing a cd with xmms. xmms has an option to work either way
