Question Mood Music, the quest for a music library app

I know it has been discussed a few times, but I just can't believe, that there isn't a sensible music organizer app out there somewhere.

No, I don't need easytag, my 10000+ files are all nicely tagged and rated thank you very much.
Besides, I thought the point of id3v2 was to enable extended tags ala Mood, Tempo, Rating etc. the few id3v2 enabled apps I've seen only have a comment field as an additional tagging option.

No, I don't want juK and Yammi etc. juK uses aRTs which I just got done disabling on my system because of Flash shenanigans, and other similar apps give me long playlists or a artist tree view, whoopdeedoo.

I want something like MusicMatch or WMP9 that doesn't require Wine and can use XMMS or other Alsa enabled players.

In WMP9 I had rated my songs and filled in extra info like Tempo and Mood and could generate a so called Auto Playlist of let's say "Slow Romantic Classical" music with a 4 or 5 star rating. Select the Autoplay list, hit play and then hit the bath tub. Or "Very Fast Angry Punk" for answering in-laws support emails...

Something similar was availabe in MM. AutoDJ or something along those lines.

I've searched the entire time I have used Linux so far, which is only about 6 weeks, thus my new thread here. I hope I'm just google-challenged or something...

Before I start writing it myself, I'd rather ask if somebody has already invented this particular wheel. Or if it is maybe an upcoming feature in one of the existing solutions. Or maybe a plugin for XMMS.. who knows?

Thank you for your insights.

Guido.

Hey, have you seen Rhythmbox? I didn't use it much when I had it but it looks pretty close to your specs.

As I said, my google skills must not be that great.... at least for finding linux apps. Maybe posts like this need more keywords like: music organizer, similar to Media Player, like Music Match Musicmatch MusicMatch... hehe 8)

And the current champion is...

Madman!

Bring me the fools cap, Jeeves.

Here a quick (subjective) feature check:

juK RB MM
Dyn. Playlists - - X
Rating system - X X
Pop-up titles X - X
Custom fields - - -
Multi-tagging X - X
uses XMMS - - X

Quirks/Wishlist:

juK uses aRTs, which can be problematic for some people (especially Flash users) and cause spotty playback performance on some systems.

RB crashes during the automatic library import of my mp3 files (at least under KDE). Rating can't be applied to more than one track.

MM - no custom fields.

So, now I just need to bother the developer of Madman to include custom fields and I'll be a happy camper soon.

If anyone thinks their app can top Madman, I'm ready to hear it!

Prokyon3 has no rating system and no custom fields either. I guess, a randomly generated playlist could count as a dynamic playlist, but I prefer filter based ones.

Madman does more without requiring a MySQL backend. On the other hand, a DB backend allows for adding custom fields and your own selection criteria, it just would be nice, if somebody did that for me already.

______________juK_RB_MM_P3
Dyn. Playlists__________X___~
Rating system______ X__X____
Pop-up titles ____X_____X____
Custom fields_______________
Multi-tagging____X_____X___X
uses XMMS ___________X___X

One of these days I'll try an SQL based music organizer and see how useful it is. I oughta write up a review web page or something...
