nice little prog 4 playing dvds?

hi everybody I got my first DVD for christmas and now I want to play it.
I'm using ubuntu w/ K and there's no program came w/ it so I'd like to ask for advice. I hate it when progs have loads of extras I never used. I promise I will solely for playing DVDs and nothing else and that's all I ask (I know it's not asking too much as I don't want a windows program.)

thanks, pat (btw, it's pat metheny)

you'll probably need to install libdvdcss for decoding encypted dvds (i.e. commercial dvds, be aware od the legal implications though, not legal to install in some places) and then use xine, mplayer or prehaps totem. Mplayer doesn't have menu support yet so perhaps that's not an option, xine is quite nice (I use it) but totem which is based on xine-lib has a nice simple interface so maybe you'd like to try that.
