Newb needs KDE install help for Mandrake
Im new to these forums and new to linux.
First off for the basic info. I have mandrake 10.1 installed. I choose mandrake for it's ease and because I like it, also I prefer urpmi over yum and apt-get and mandrake makes the linux world very easy for me.
Basic desktop: athlon xp 2000+, 768 megs ram, geforce 4 ti 4200, 120 gig drive, abit nf7-s, basic hardware stuff you may need to know.
Im trying to install kde 3.4 on my system. Im stuck with 3.2 right now. I've tried thacs rpms and thats what got me obsessed with kde 3.4 but his RPMS are so unstable it's not funny. MY cd-roms kept disappearing as they were mounted and refused to read cd-roms. I had to re mount them which got to be annoying. There were also some other annoying things like haveing to use zdm or gdm when I like kdm and such.
Anyway Im trying the Konstruct method now and am having trouble. Anyone give me some good tips and a good walkthrough? Im downloading the required libraries now in hopes to make it easier but I would still like to read more about it and I am sorry if this has been posted many times before.
