ncurses - install problem

I'm trying to install ncurses. When I run ./configure, it runs, and I see the usual list of things that I don't understand. Eventually, it stops on this:

make: *** No rule to make target `preinstall'. Stop

What am I missing? I assume that it is dependant on something that I should have already installed. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Stevo

try using a front end like synaptic..or kpackage-- they will give you beta clues..

or turn your -v (verbose, debug) on higher (see the man page for ncurses for this-- it may not be -v).

good luck.
