Arrow mrename 1.2 with 4digits progressive number

Hello

I'm running DSL current stable version. (It's build from Debian Woody) on a Duron pc 1200 cps and 300 mb ram.
This is the script of 'mrename 1.2'. It's a mas renamer for files in a directory. It returnes the files as follows: <progressive number> <suffix> <old name>.
Now I want to change this as follows: <old name "without number nor suffix" (only the search string)> <progressive number "in 4 digits"> <suffix>.
As I dont know nothing about scripting yet, I would like to ask if there is someone who can modify this for me? It appears to be sh.script.

Thanks

Well, we prefer to help, rather than do it for you.
Its only a few lines, why don't you have a crack at changing it.

Here's some useful links
http://rute.2038bug.com/index.html.gz
http://tldp.org/LDP/Bash-Beginners-G...tml/index.html
http://www.tldp.org/LDP/abs/html/

Post your code back if you get stuck, using code tags https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...do=bbcode#code

A very useful cmd is 'set -xv' after the top line thus
Code:
#!/bin/sh
set -xv
It'll show you what the parser is doing

Thanks for the quick reply,
but I'm in a hurry. If I can output the files as a 4 digits progressive number I'll already be satisfaied. In DSL there is also "Rename Ext", but I cant find more info from it.
