Mplayer/Xine question (segment fault).

I search the forums for Mplayer/Xine issues, didn't find anything similar to the issue I am having.

I can play most .WMV files, but others cause a segment fault.

I downloaded the latest codecs.

I'm running Fedora:

kernel 2.4.22-1.2174.nptl #1
Mplayer mplayer-1.0-0.5.pre2.20031107.fr
Xine xine-0.9.23-1.fr

Still no luck.

Did MS add some encryption crap in the .WMV streams?

I use mplayer http://some-url.com/some-vid.wmv -dumpstream to save to my disk, then try to open the file and it segment faults.

Any ideas?

It is possible that the files that cause error may have been corrupted. I think Xine library has problems handling damaged files. You might wana try out a media file checker utility.

http://www.fixvideo.com

Well they are the Windows version, I don't know any for linux.
