MPlayer -vo Fatal Error - Easy FIX??

Hi there,
I am new to linux and certainly struggling my way through things. Today I thought I would burn a dvd...no such luck.

So I thought I would play the DVD through mplayer, but whenever I try to play the DVD I get the message "error opening initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device".

Is there any easy solution, and I do mean easy for me the beginner user.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also if someone could tell me how to take an avi movie file on my computer and transfer it to dvd that would be great too, I can't figure anything out so far.

Thanks again for any help

Nadine

You probably dont have permissions to use the vesa framebuffer or whatever video ouput
you selected. try running the same command as the root user or modify the permissions
for the device.

mplayer -vo help

will list alternate available Video Output devices...

For creating your avi movies, do some searching on ripping with the DivX codec.
