mplayer sound locks it up


I built a new computer and compiled mplayer before I put the audio card in it (aopen aw850). I never actually got it working but since i've setup audio it gets alot farther but still won't work. heres what I'm getting

and hangs there not doing anything, maybe I setup the sound wrong because I can't get xmms to work with alsa either, just artsd.

nevermind, leaving it open for about 10 minutes made it start working... strange


edit: still takes awhile (2 minutes) for anything of mplayer to start weather in console or firefox. once started its fine.
