MPI (MPICH) Configuration Error -- No acceptable C-compiler

I have been trying to install MPICH2 on a server node for a cluster I am building running RedHat 5.5, and when running the "configure" shell file, it gives me the error message: "configure:4533: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH." I tried to install the gcc c-compiler from the installation disk, but it had the dependency "libgomp.so.1()", which I cannot find on the disk nor on any web site. Where can I find this dependency or get a different c-compiler?

Thanks in advance.

libgomp is the GNU implementation of OpenMP and has been part of GCC since version 4.2 (according to Wikipedia, at least). So, installing the package for gcc should provide libgomp.so. Can you post exactly what you're doing (i.e. the commands you're using), as well as full error messages, please?

OK. What about when you're trying to install gcc?

Do you have a reason to be compiling this from source rather than using the one available via yum?

Code:
sudo yum -y install mpich2
It's available in the Fedora15 and 14 repositories at least, don't see why it wouldn't be included in the official RedHat5 repositories.

This thread has now been marked as solved, but in future, please post complete error messages. "Exit 1" doesn't give us any clues as to what the problem is. Usually, you want to post the first error that occurs (so yes, you'll need to scroll up to see it).
