Look for other applications similar to Xcdroast, and unpack the tarball in the same top-level directory they're in.
PATH is a variable used by bash to tell it which directories to look in for executables. Example: if you give the command 'ls', bash will look through all the directories in your PATH until it finds the ls executable.
To add gcc to your path, open a terminal and issue the command 'locate gcc | less', and scroll through the list until you find the location of the gcc executable. Write down the path; something like /usr/bin/gcc. Then, give this command: export PATH="$PATH:/usr/bin/gcc" That will add gcc to your PATH.
You can also edit /etc/ld.so.conf to add /usr/bin/gcc and make it globally available to all users.
