Mpc lists database as empty

I've been using mpc for almost a year and was loving it. But one day it just stopped working.
When I try running "mpc ls" I get nothing.
Running "mpc update" doesn't change anything.
In fact "mpc stats" shows that the database hasn't been updated in some time.
Attempting to run "systemctl restart mpd" doesn't do much either.

It was running fine yesterday until I updated and restarted the computer. I'm on Linux Mint 19 with mpc 0.20.0

Here's my mpd.config:
Code:
music_directory		"~/music"
playlist_directory	"~/.config/mpd/playlists"
# mpd defaults to localhost:6600 which conflicts with systemd
bind_to_address		"127.0.0.1:5460"
db_file			"~/.config/mpd/database"

log_file		"~/.config/mpd/log"
pid_file		"~/.config/mpd/pid"
state_file		"~/.config/mpd/state"
restore_paused		"yes"
auto_update		"yes"
volume_normalization	"yes"

# audio_output {
# 	type			"alsa"
# 	name			"my_alsa"
# 	mixer_type		"software"
# 	# device			"hw:0,0"
# }

audio_output {
    type	"pulse"
    name	"my_pulse"
}

# audio_output {
#     type "osx"
#     name "CoreAudio"
#     mixer_type "software"
#     buffer_time "50000"
# }
Here's my directory structore:

Code:
(ins)~/.config/mpd$ tree -I playlists ./
./
├── database
├── log
├── mpd.conf
├── pid
└── state
Any help would be much appreciated thanks. My database file seems to be intact but mpc treats it like it's empty.

What exactly has been updated that affected mpc?
Is mpc alive and maintained or abandoned?

It would have to either be the 'libmpdclient2' upgrade on the 16th or the pulseaudio update that happaned yesterday. According to mpc the last update was when the former was upgraded.

Looks like it depends on glibc, libmpdclient.so

I've never used that. You can look at the change logs and see if you spot anything.

Also the bug tracker

Delete ~/.config/mpd/database and restart mpd.

I tried deleting the database and restarting. No luck there.
This computer is about 7 years old, so I'm going to be upgrading it soon. I'll try getting a different distro on it and that should work.

I'm confident that there's nothing wrong with my config, so if it's still broken then I'll go on to the bug tracker.
Thank you all for your time.
