mpage and utf support

does anybody know how to get mpage 2.5.6 (text2ps converter) work with utf characters in the input text, for example in order to be able to print those french and german accents and umlauts ? i work on slackware 13.37.

it would be great to get this decade old mis(t)ery solved.

many thanks in advance, bye, pisti

Have you had a look at this? https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=429277 Could be an old bug that still hasn't gotten fixed. If it's not relevant, let me know. I'll try to help further with this if possible.

dear Harlin,

i didn't see before the particular bug report you mentioned but i found many similar ones in the past. to me it looks as mpage under version 2.5.6 was never fully prepared for the UTF family of character encoding schemes. or it may simply miss the proper font for the UTF range of characters. that's all very sad as mpage is such a neat elegant little tool.

then, another helpful feature could be a flag for PDF output (although i am happy with ps2pdf but it's one more step to do).

in any case, it looks as if development of new mpage versions is somewhat on hold :

bye, pisti
