mp3 playback problem

every time I start a job or browse on the internet, basically when the process is getting used to a good amount, it will briefly interrupt the mp3 playback ( i am using xmms). it's really annoying however I haven't found a solution. Maybe it's a configuration thing that i can change somewhere to make it better, let's say, the sound driver config? Need solutions .. I am using suse9.2, sound driver is alsa, forgot what version it is . Can anyone help?
