Samba MP3 Playback Problem

I am sharing my MP3/s off a duak boot Fedora Core 2 & Windows XP desktop connected via a wired line to my WAP (D-Link 614 first generation). I have a laptop (IBM T21) using an older wireless card (Orinoco Silver from around 2001) that is running Fedora Core 2 with various kernels installed. When I try to access my MP3's stored on the Windows machine via samba over my wireless network (802.11B), the playback on my laptop is rather choppy. I am wondering what I can do to make the playback smoother (I didn't have this problem when I was using the same laptop with Widnows XP installed & playing MP3's via WinAmp)? I am using a patched Orinoco 13e driver primarily with kernel 2.6.7 & 2.6.8, Other things important to note are that I am very close to the WAP (no walls inbetween, etc.) and I am generally the only machine using the wireless network and I am not running any other programs which would usurp the bandwith.
