I am using Mozilla mail and can receive email on my Comcast account. I am unable to send email and I think its because I need to change the port for my outgoing SMTP mail server. I see where to change the port on the incoming server but not the outgoing server. I am using the Mozilla mail that came with Redhat 7.3
why do you think you need to change it? to what, from what and why? mozilla mail (which is long long dead...) would only reference an SMTP for outbound mail, it's nothing to do with inbound mail in that context.
you do realis just how ancient rh73 is? if you're new to linux you're doing yourself no favours by using it, life is SO much easier on newer distributions.
I have two Windows machines on my network, both ports have to be set to 587 in order to send mail to the smtp mail server. Port 110 works on the Linux box for the incoming mail server but port 25 dose not work for outgoing mail.
Thanks for responding Chris, I had already tried :587 on the end of the IP for the outgoing SMTP mail server but that doesn't work. the message I get back when I try to send mail is "unable to connect to the mail server, the server may be down or incorrectly configured, check your Mail/News settings and try again. Both of my Windows machines are sending mail with the same settings. I can't find anywhere on the Mozilla mail preferences to specify the port setting for the outgoing SMTP server. Old Man
