Yes you can.
I've had thesame type of problem.
What I did was viewing the init script for mldonkey, usually /etc/init.d/mldonkey or maybe mlnet instead of mldonkey
There you can figure out what exact command it uses to start the daemon.
Then you can give the command yourself and every error will appear on screen.
In my case the command was:
Code:
sudo chown mldonkey-user /var/log/mldonkey /var/run/mldonkey
start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --oknodo --background --pidfile /var/run/mldon
key/mlnet.pid --nicelevel 0 --exec /usr/bin/mldonkey_server -- --start --pidfil
e /var/run/mldonkey/mlnet.pid --chdir /var/srv/mldonkey --chuid mldonkey-user --
max-alive 72 --umask 0002 --daemon
It is a bit of work though..)
Second option is looking at your logfiles, such as /var/log/syslog and /var/log/messages
also mldonkey logs to /var/log/mldonkey (may differ on your system)
