Angry Midnight Commander as root mouse fails

I use mc a lot as a user and also as root.
The mouse works when I'm a user but not when I'm root
Ive looked for a setting to turn the mouse on but cant find anything.
I use Gecko Linux 15 = Opensuse 15.3 roughly
Any ideas ?

You didn't tell how you start MC as root. Does it work when you start it with sudo mc from a terminal window?

I see that openSUSE provides mc.desktop. That means you can start MC from your desktop environment. So, what is your DE?

Or do you mean starting MC as root from the linux virtual console?

Thanks for the reply shruggy.
Ive been starting mc from a konsole terminal window after first becoming root with su.
Ive discovered that if I use an xterm terminal instead of konsole and follow the above procedure the the mouse works just the same as being a user

my DE is kde .. Ive found the desktop entry in the menu but it runs mc using konsole. Ive created a desktop icon which opens xterm as root, so I'll use that when I want a root mc.

sudo mc opens mc in a konsole window btw.
