media stream problems

I got to a website for a tv channel, and they allowed me to watch old shows. So I pressed the link to an .asx file and firefox downloaded it. Mplayer did not work well showing the show (it ended directly, did not realize that it was supposed to connect to a server).

So I tried xine instead and after some buffering it worked, but it kept on hanging after a while. And I could never skip forward more then a few seconds since the buffer wasn't very large.

So I figured out where xine did connect and used that url with mplayer, which worked. But then also mplayer hanged after a while, like I lost connection or something. I can't get any errors even with highest verbose level. And it is really annoying having to watch it all over again since I cannot skip forward.

So I wondered if anyone has any good solution to this problem? Maybe there is some program that can download the show so I can watch it and skip forward as much as I want?

btw, the file I want to watch is: mms://webstream.ur.se/Media/tv-universitetet/8504174001.wmv

EDIT:

After a little while on google I found this: http://www.geocities.com/majormms/mm...t-0.0.3.tar.gz which seems to work (downloading right now). I also search for mms on freshmeat and found a nice qt-based app for downloading mms. Sorry for posting before investigating enough but at least this may help someone else. :P
